Junior Security Operations Engineer
About the Role
As a Junior Security Operations Engineer, you will support the day-to-day operation of the organization's cybersecurity capabilities while working closely with senior security professionals. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build hands-on experience in security operations, threat detection, incident response, and Microsoft security technologies.
You will be part of the cybersecurity team and will contribute to protecting the organization's users, systems, and data by monitoring security events, supporting investigations, and helping improve security processes and controls.
Key Responsibilities
Within the cybersecurity team, you will have the following responsibilities:
- Monitor, triage, and investigate security alerts and incidents under the guidance of senior security team members.
- Support incident response activities and assist with the coordination of remediation actions with IT teams and external partners.
- Assist in managing and optimizing Microsoft security solutions, including Microsoft Defender technologies.
- Help identify, analyze, and escalate suspicious activities, threats, and vulnerabilities.
- Contribute to vulnerability management activities by tracking remediation efforts and validating corrective actions.
- Support the review of security configurations and help identify opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in phishing investigations and email security activities, including analysis of malicious emails and user-reported threats.
- Collaborate with the managed SOC, security service providers, and internal stakeholders to ensure effective security monitoring and response.
- Assist in maintaining security documentation, operational procedures, playbooks, and incident reports.
- Stay up to date with emerging cybersecurity threats and Microsoft security technologies.
Your Profile
- A degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Basic knowledge of security operations concepts, including incident response, threat detection, and vulnerability management.
- Familiarity with Microsoft security technologies such as:
- Microsoft Defender for Endpoint
- Microsoft Defender for Office 365
- Microsoft Defender for Identity
- Microsoft Defender for Cloud
- Microsoft Sentinel
- Understanding of Microsoft 365 security fundamentals, including Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and Intune.
- Experience or interest in email security, phishing analysis, and protection against email-based threats is considered a strong advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Eagerness to learn, develop new skills, and grow within a cybersecurity operations environment.
